This is Beauty (2018)
My topic is the environment, fashion design/graphic design, and laser cutting. Considering the idea of reducing, reusing, recycling, in this project, I'm using the founded recyclable and unrecyclable materials to reproduce fashion jewelry. In this era of rapid consumption, people love to buy new things and throw away things quickly. The United States, especially New York, is one of the city use lots of unrecyclable materials. People only considered what cost the less money and in what way will gain most of the money. I always feel I live in a city with trash. 90% of those trashes are unrecyclable plastic. You still can see under every tree are having a single or group of plastic in this city. This is Beauty (2018) is trying to call on people to reusing what they have and not wasting any of the materials. As an individual in this society, it is impossible for us to ban everyone from using plastic. Government and policy is the key to making the change. However, as an individual, we can avoid using plastic, we can save all kinds of materials and reuse creatively. In the design of the hair band, I'm trying to bring the contrast between the used caps and plastic package and dead flower. I'm comparing the beauty of nature to the realistic of manufacturing. In the necklace, I want the audience to reflect what is under the everyday living, which I create a hollow out. I use the famous fast consumption company--Starbuck irony reflect the era of producing million of waste every day. In addition to the project, I was reusing the materials left out to made a bracelet and a ring. The whole idea is about reducing should go first, and reducing is an infinite process. Recycling is the last choice of the used materials. The ideal is there should not have a piece of nonrecyclable material on this planet.
