Updated Laser cutting--Christmas Tree

11.2

What did the three dice cast for you? Come up with an initial idea for your final project and post it on your blog.
Here are my three dice: Environment, Vinyl/Laser/CNC, Graphic/Fashion-Design

Initial idea: In this final project, I'm using the concept of reduce-renew-recycle to make a series of jewelry. I will collect the used plastic cutleries, waster foams, and plastic bags to create a necklace, bracelet, and earrings. The details inside those materials will be cut by the laser cutting machine. The pattern shows on the jewelries will be all kinds of leaves and flowers. My idea is to create an ironic of the real beauty of the natural and human aesthetic.

You started to create a 3D model through Tinkercad in class (theme of your model: a piece of jewelry, a trophy, an animal or creature that represents an aspect of you, or another form of your own choosing). Continue to play with it and post a screenshot of the outcome on your blog alogn with a short paragraph reflecting your experience. UNLESS YOU SIGNED UP FOR THREE CREDITS, THIS IS ENTIRELY VOLUNTARY: Output your model through Makerbot - with the help of the studio staff - and bring it to one of our next classes to share. Use either MMAS or the Thingspace for your print.

Reflection on the Thinkercad experience:

This is my second-time experiences 3D modeling software. Like the first time, I am not used to the perspective appears on the screen. It makes me feel dizzy like car sick. However, as I followed the instruction Richard gave in the class, this software became easy to manipulate, and I can start to create a visible shape. I would like to comment that Thinkercad is easy software to begin to explore the 3D modeling. It has the same function and shortcut as the other 3d modeling software. Thinkercad offers lots of characteristic shapes, like dinosaur and skull, it gives the participant a feasible way to build on to their own model.
Moreover, the design of this web let the audience feels like an easy game to play with, and it is acceptable for children. While I explore the features in Thinkercad, I thought all young student should have a chance or classes that introduce to the new technology. It is a handy tool for the student to construct and deconstruct any shape gemoetically. It helps students to learn a space in multi-perspective.

The most challenge I face to do this project is to print out the 3D model I build in the Thinkercad. The machine automatically will create a supporter for the model. I was exploring the other 3d print on google, but I did not find this problem in the others work. Understanding supporting is the next step I'm trying to learn. 3D printing is a challenge and fun, and I will keep explore and experience the 3D modeling in the future.

Look at each others’ homework and give comments. Leave a minimum of 7 thoughtful comments, which provide feedback to the work as well as recommend ways to take the work further. Indicate on your blog who you gave comments to and share in a few sentences your takeaway from looking at each other’s coursework.
I gave comments to Grace, Ren x2, Madison, Claudia, Danielle, Sarah

It was impressive to look the others work. In fact, I always wondering how are the people do with their project. This exercise gives me a chance to look others work thoughtfully. Peer support and learning from each other is a very important process to improve a self. To be a good student, we have to learn not only from the knowledge but also to be able to help each other. To be a good teacher, we have to learn how to guide the student specifically. We have to see what they need to support. I believe the short and precise comment to students is the most helpful way to teach students.

I can't leave a comment in Claudia's blog, here is my comment for her On-off project.

Hi Claudia, it was interesting to hear your experiences on the one-off project. Your outcome of this project, which is the two graphic design are so lovely. I can resonate your image with my experience on the one-off project. For the next step, I would like to see if you could make this in a series and create an animation with your design.

Team up with a class mate and create a standalone structure from a 2D design process that includes at least one decorative = engraved element; output and assemble your design with the laser cutter. Document your process on your blog and bring the outcome to our next class.

Claudia and I are the group for the laser cutting. At the beginning, Claudia came up an idea to build a building. But I think we should doing something with those upcome holidays.

So we have the Christmas tree.

Claudia has the first design on the tree, and I have an amended version.
Then we have an experiment on the first design of the Christmas tree. We were trying to measure the thickness of the wood.
I have found a few patterns could apply on the tree and do the engraving.

More ideas about the ornaments and the engravings.

We really want to make it better so we would like to take one more week to finalize our ideas.

Create a blog entry about your Scratch experience and make 2 connections to the (art) classroom

I was dreamed to be able to design a game corporate in the art-making process. Scratch made my dream come true. I can't tell how much I enjoy working with scratch although I still have difficulty working with their language.

Scratch is really an amazing tool. It makes making game and animation really easier. The function of sketching inside the scratch is able to alternate the drawing function inside photoshop. Children in the scratch can create their characteristic very easier by drawing in a new backdrop. After that, they need to apply the function to operate their story.

Children at all age love playing with games. However, I think it is too hard for children at an early age to use scratch to create a game, it will fritter away their patient. On the other hand, scratch is a very good tool for talented and experienced children with technology and it also a good tool for children in middle school. Learning the scratch knowledge would develop their logistic skill in a visually, artful and fun way. Still, the guidance from the teacher is important. If the lack of teaching the fundamental function of the scratch, it will not help children to develop creativity and artful. Game design is art. As the era changes, the use of scratch should incorporate the teaching of art in the art classroom.
